We want to train and inspire the next generation of leading cancer researchers and medical doctors in Oncology
The project
One of VHIO’s main missions is to train and inspire the next generation of leading cancer researchers and medical doctors in Oncology to drive impactful health research and innovation practices that will tackle tomorrow’s societal challenges. Through the VHIO Academy established in 2021, the institute aims to attract talented international scientists and support them through state-of-the-art training and career development opportunities.
To boost VHIO leadership in cancer research we are launching VIDA (“VHIO International postDoctoral programme for translAtional Research”), a new postdoctoral programme led by VHIO and designed to foster excellence research through the implementation of inclusive recruitment practices and an impactful training portfolio.
VIDA will recruit a total of 12 postdoctoral researchers distributed in 2 calls to conduct interdisciplinary and intersectoral research activities in the broad topic of Cancer Research, which will comply with all the principles of Open Science and maintain the highest research quality standards. The VIDA COFUND programme includes the participation of 16 different academic & non-academic partner organisations.

The programme will consolidate the research career opportunities of the beneficiaries while strengthening the training portfolio of VHIO Academy and expanding VHIO’s network of partner organisations to foster interdisciplinary and intersectoral cancer & Oncology research.
Postdoctoral programme
VIDA postdoctoral programme represents the ideal environment for the professional development of postdoctoral fellows in the cancer research & Oncology fields, expanding their future opportunities and amplifying VHIO’s workforce of future leaders in the field.
The programme involves a wide variety of research topics and host research groups working in biomedical, translational, and clinical research. The wide variety of research options that cover the whole spectrum of Oncology & Cancer Research highlights the unique interdisciplinary approach of the VIDA programme.
VIDA will complement the frontier research projects with advanced training opportunities through an excellent programme that incorporates innovative training. Fellows will be encouraged to participate and contribute to communication & outreach activities.
VHIO is a reference cancer center for personalized medicine
Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology
Established in 2007 and located in Barcelona’s Vall d’Hebron Hospital Campus, the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) is a reference cancer center for personalized medicine in Oncology with a comprehensive view and international reputation, which embraces a translational, multidisciplinary and collaborative research model.
Being awarded in 2022 as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence (2022-2026), the highest national recognition award from the Spanish Ministry of Science & Innovation for research centres, is a clear indication of the cutting-edge research at world standards performed at the institute through international scientific excellence and leadership.
With over 800 professionals, including biomedical & clinical researchers, oncologists, nursing staff and research support staff, 9 transversal clinical trials core services & units, VHIO brings together 28 research groups distributed in the 3 major areas of preclinical, translational, and clinical research to develop and advance new diagnostic tools and more effective therapeutics against cancer.
